Starting Solids: A Safe Phase of Discovery

Starting solid foods is a very special milestone: it marks the beginning of a new phase filled with sensory discoveries for the baby—and it also brings up many questions for parents and caregivers. It’s the start of a journey through new flavors, textures, and experiences!

When to start?

The general recommendation is to start from 6 months of age, always paying close attention to your baby's readiness cues:

  • Can hold their head up steadily;
  • Can sit with support and shows good core balance;
  • Shows genuine interest in food, watching what adults eat and reaching out towards the food.

What should the first foods be?

Start with well-cooked, mashed fruits and vegetables, offered in small amounts. The goal at this stage is not to replace breast milk or formula, but rather to introduce new flavors and textures. Always respect your baby's pace and acceptance—don't worry if they only try a little bit or refuse at first: it's all part of the discovery process!

Safety first

A few precautions are essential to protect your little one's health:

  • Do not offer honey before 1 year of age;
  • Avoid excessive sugar and salt—your baby's palate is still developing, and natural foods are already plenty;
  • Avoid choking hazard foods (large, round, hard, or sticky) before the recommended age.

💡 Always with professional guidance

Every baby is unique! Always consult your pediatrician before starting solids. They will assess your child's development and provide personalized guidance tailored to your reality and specific needs. That way, you can move forward with confidence and peace of mind!
